CHIMNEY: HOW OFTEN DO I NEED MY CHIMNEY CLEANED?
Generally a chimney or fireplace should be cleaned yearly. However, if you are burning more than a cord of wood, it should be done more often.
SHOULD GAS FIREPLACES BE CLEANED?
Gas inserts do not require a yearly cleaning. Gas log sets should be cleaned and inspected every 3 to 5 years.
ARE DURA FLAME/PINE MOUNTAIN LOGS AS EFFICIENT AS REGULAR HARDWOOD?
No. Dura flame logs are easy to light but are not nearly as efficient as hardwood. Hardwood is very dense and when burned it will produce high heat.
THE GLASS ON MY FIREPLACE, STOVE OR INSERT IS HOT; SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?
The glass panels on a wood or gas fireplace, stove or insert can reach high temperatures, and customers are always advised to use caution and supervise children when in the proximity of the appliance. Barriers, such as fireplace screens, can be used to put an extra layer of protection between yourself and the heat source.
WHAT KIND OF WOOD IS BEST FOR MY WOOD BURNING FIREPLACE, STOVE OR INSERT?
You should always use seasoned wood in your wood burning fireplace, stove or insert. Seasoned wood has been dried for six to twelve months, and burns cleanly and safely. Green or wet wood has too much water content, and typically results in a smokier fire. You should never burn painted wood in your fireplace, since the toxic fumes can be released into your home and the atmosphere beyond.
WHY IS MY FIRE STRUGGLING TO BURN?
Your fire may be deprived of oxygen, which makes it difficult to achieve a full burn. Ensure that there is adequate air supplied to your system, and that you are not using damp wood. You should also consult your owner’s manual for details on how to adjust your air shutter.
WHAT ARE WOOD PELLETS MADE FROM?
Wood pellets are created from sawdust and other wood waste, which is dried and pressed to form compact pellets. Pellets do not contain glue or adhesives, allowing for a safe and non-toxic burn.
WHY IS MY GRILL FLAME HIGHER IN THE BACK THAN IN THE FRONT?
Your grill probably just needs to be cleaned. Remove the burners and the cotter pins that are behind and beneath the unit, and shake them or use condensed air to remove dirt or buildup that may have accumulated in the burners.
HOW CAN I TELL IF MY BULL GRILL HAS A GAS LEAK?
Just mix a bit of dish soap with water, and use a small brush to dab the mixture on your connections. If there is a leak, you will see the connection start to bubble.
